AI motion design means software that writes the animation of a video from a text or a website, without a motion designer placing every element by hand. Some tools now deliver a clean video in under an hour.
They still do not replace an art director on everything. Here is what they already do well, what they still get wrong, and how to use them without being disappointed.
Why hand-made motion design is expensive
In a classic animated video, every title, shape and screenshot is placed and animated by hand, keyframe after keyframe. It is precise work, and it is priced accordingly: from $1,500 with a freelancer to $20,000 at a professional agency, for four to eight weeks of production.
The most expensive part comes later. A word to change in the script or an interface that evolves, and every revision restarts hours of animation. For a SaaS that changes every month, the video falls behind the product.
How does AI motion design work?
Two approaches share the name. The first has a video model generate the image itself, pixel by pixel. It produces beautiful moods, but invents whatever it does not know, starting with your interface.
The second has a language model write the animation as code, from your content: your copy, colors, fonts and screenshots. The video is then rendered frame by frame, like filming a web page. Text stays sharp and the brand exact, since nothing is redrawn. Both approaches are covered in the four families of AI video generators.
What AI motion design already does well
- Speed. A 30 second video comes out in under an hour, where a studio counts weeks.
- Brand consistency. Colors, fonts and logo are read from your site instead of being reinterpreted.
- Text. Set in real fonts, it stays readable from start to finish, with no warped letters.
- Variants. Three different hooks for the same ad cost three generations, not three quotes.
- Updates. When the interface changes, you remake the video instead of fixing it scene by scene.
- Timing. The animation follows the voice-over sentence by sentence, something an editor usually sets by hand.
What it still gets wrong
- Custom characters and illustration. A world drawn for your brand is still an illustrator's job.
- Long stories. Beyond a minute or two, a narrative that builds emotion still needs a human hand.
- Shot-by-shot edits. Most tools, ours included, cannot fix a single shot: you generate another video.
- The truly unexpected staging idea, the one a good art director suggests after reading your brief.
- Whatever is not on your site. If no page shows your interface, the software cannot show it properly.
How to get the most out of it
The result depends mostly on what you give the tool. A few precautions change everything:
- Update your site before making the video: recent screenshots, a clear promise at the top of the homepage.
- Pick one goal per video: present, explain, announce, sell or convince an investor.
- Listen to how your brand name and acronyms are pronounced.
- Watch the video once with the sound off: the on-screen text should be enough to follow it.
Keep a motion designer for what defines your identity, and hand the rest to the software. Every option is compared in our guide to motion design video for SaaS.
AI motion design with Genmotion.design
Genmotion.design takes the second approach. You paste your website address: the software reads your copy, colors, fonts and screenshots, writes the script, generates an English or French voice-over, then writes the animation of each scene as code. The video, about 30 seconds long in 16:9, is ready in under an hour. For the voice, see also how to choose between an AI voice over and a voice actor.
Prices range from a few dozen to a few hundred dollars depending on the plan: one video at a time, or a subscription sized to the number of videos. Access opens first to the first 100 early stage sign-ups.
Frequently asked questions
Will AI motion design replace motion designers?
It replaces part of the repetitive work: adapting a video, updating it, producing many. Art direction, custom illustration and brand films remain a craft, and good motion designers already use these tools to move faster.
Can you tell a video was made with AI motion design?
Rarely when the animation is written as code: the text stays sharp and the interface is yours. Pixel-generated videos give themselves away more often, through warped text or an invented screen.
Do you need animation skills to use an AI motion design tool?
No. An up-to-date site and a clear goal are enough. Knowing how to watch a video critically does help you pick the right version.
How much does AI motion design cost?
A few dozen dollars a month for template editors, and from a few dozen to a few hundred dollars on Genmotion.design depending on the plan. Compare that with $1,500 to $20,000 for a hand-made video.
In short
AI motion design is fast, sharp and faithful to your brand, and it finally makes one video per announcement or per ad possible. It still struggles with illustration, long stories and fine edits. Used for what it does well, it frees up the budget for the film that really matters.
